Nestled in a river glade on the Talek River in the Maasai Mara Game Reserve, is a favorite spot where elephants come to quench their thirst. Ilkeliani camp has been designed to combine the old traditional safari style with a modern and fresh feel. Ilkeliani Camp offers only 17 tents and each commanding views of the plains and the wildlife action throughout the day. It is a permanent camp designed along ecofriendly principles. The ethos is to leave a minimum foot print on nature.
Nature walks along the Talek River with the resident naturalist presents opportunities to encounter animal spoors and the diverse bird life in the camp’s extensive grounds. Excursions to the local Masai village are encouraged to enrich ones appreciation of the culture.
The tented rooms at Ilkeliani camp are raised slightly on earth mounds, overlooking the river and the plains. The Mounds, covered in vegetation, feel quite natural, and each one has been sitted under its own cluster of shady indigenous trees, enhancing the whole experience of being out in the wilderness on the Mara.
After your activities of game watching during the day, enjoy a sundowner round the campfire, exchanging stories of the day with the other guests. Dinner by candlelight completes the day, after which an askari will guide you to your tent.
